Jha said close to 5.85 lakh new voters had been added to the electoral list since January 28. Of these, as many as 3.06 lakh voters have been accepted and cleared by the Election Commission.
Speaking to the media, Jha said applicants whose names have been accepted can find their names on the website to ensure that there are no errors in their names and other details. The Election Commission has been undertaking a continuous updating plan for adding fresh names into the electoral website.
“The process of adding the names to the electoral list will continue till April 7. For the balance 2.97 lakh applicants, the process will be completed in the next eight to 10 days,” said Jha.
According to Jha, the prime reason for the delay in updating the electoral list has been on account of the field inspections.
The CEO stated that the Election Commission will go door to door, distributing voters’ slips to citizens to enable them to cast their votes.
“This process will begin three days prior to the polls. People can rest assured that with these voters’ slips, they need not fear about parties taking away their EPIC cards to cast bogus votes,” he said.
The Election Commission is also looking at expanding the services of the voters’ helpline, 1950.
